Saudi Food and Drug Authority
Description
The Food and Drug General Authority was established pursuant to Cabinet Resolution No. (1) dated 1/7/1424 AH; As an independent body with a legal personality and directly linked to the Prime Minister, it is entrusted with all procedural, executive and oversight tasks carried out by the currently existing authorities to ensure the safety of food and medicine for humans and animals and the safety of biological and chemical preparations as well as electronic products that affect human health. The affairs of the Food and Drug Authority are managed by a Board of Directors headed by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister. The membership of His Royal Highness the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs is a deputy, and the Council includes in its membership all the relevant ministers (His Royal Highness the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Water and Electricity, the Minister of Finance, and the Minister of Economy and Planning) as well as the Director General of the Saudi Arabian Standards and Metrology Organization and the Chairman of the Council. Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the Kingdom, CEO of the Authority, and a specialist in the field of medicine. The main objectives of the Food and Drug Authority are determined to regulate, monitor and supervise food, medicine, medical and diagnostic devices and set mandatory standard specifications for them, whether imported or manufactured locally. It is the responsibility of the Food and Drug Authority to monitor and examine them in its laboratories or the laboratories of other parties.
